The Epidemiology Department
The epidemiology department runs applied research, training, scientific communication and service activities mainly in the field of infectious diseases.
Epiconcept conducts research activities in the field of vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) aiming at measuring vaccine effectiveness and impact of vaccination programmes. VPD of interest so far include: COVID-19, influenza, rotavirus, pneumococcal diseases, HPV, pertussis, Ebola, meningitis. Epiconcept is in charge of the coordination of European epidemiological networks.
Epiconcept develops training curriculum and training material in the field of applied epidemiology and runs related training activities. Epiconcept conducts short- and long-term face-to-face and virtual training sessions, based on interactive sessions, computerised case studies, and long-term training programmes (FETP).
Epiconcept provides support to public health partners for the development and management of surveillance systems, data analysis, monitoring systems assessment, long-term programme management for surveillance of communicable diseases (protocol, laboratory, information technology and statistics).
Epiconcept critically appraises studies at the request of various partners (e.g. malaria/Ebola vaccines, narcolepsy studies etc.). Epiconcept evaluates various drugs/devices (e.g. artesunate, meningitis rapid tests). Epiconcept also supports its partners in the field of written and oral scientific communication.
This department is supported by 8 full-time epidemiologists and a network of international consultants.
Epiconcept is looking for an epidemiologist to work on a new and innovative European multidisciplinary project (involving epidemiologists, virologists, data analysts, data scientists, IT specialists, risk communication experts) that aims at strengthening pandemic management. He/she will work in the team contributing to the surveillance (traditional epidemiological and laboratory surveillance systems, social media, participatory surveillance) and data analysis component of the project. The epidemiologist will contribute to other team activities including training, research and international missions.
What you will bring
Educational & Experience
Former EPIET, FETP, EIS or similar type of learning by doing training preferred, minimum 4 years of experience in epidemiological surveillance and data analysis.
Sciences / technical
Ability to develop scientific activity (protocol development, data collection and analysis and report writing) compliant with highest ethical standards,
Understanding of the current challenges in epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases, outbreak investigations, and applied research evolving methods and context,
Excellence database management and data analysis skills,
Proficient in R and Stata,
Vision and creativity in the field of surveillance,
Excellent oral and written communication skills (congress, scientific articles, report, etc.),
Knowledge on ethical and legal aspects of health
Experience in facilitating courses, developing training materials
Desirable: Understanding concepts of relational database.
Desirable: Understanding of how to expose data from systems (e.g. APIs) and link data from
Desirable: Ability to work with IT specialists to understand different types of data models.
Excellent planning and organizational skills; capacity to coordinate activities with the other Epiconcept departments and Epiconcept partners, capacity to integrate into a multi-disciplinary, multi-national, highly motivated and competent team of epidemiologists.

Knowledge of European Union and international institutions.
Ability to create and coordinate scientific networks.
Excellent level of English (oral, written).
Desirable: Good level of French.
Fluent in other languages will be an asset.
