The I-MOVE COVID-19 project for research, prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic supported by the EU Horizon 2020 programme

22 April 2020

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the I-MOVE European Influenza Monitoring Network coordinated by Epiconcept will be adapted and expanded to include COVID-19. It includes primary care networks, hospitals, national reference laboratory centres in ten countries. Still coordinated by Epiconcept, I-MOVE-COVID-19 aims to obtain epidemiological, clinical and virological information on the virus and infected patients. By providing a flexible surveillance platform (adaptable to the epidemiological situation), research studies, hypothesis testing and evaluation of public health interventions (e.g. vaccination, antivirals), it aims to contribute to the knowledge base, guide patient management and inform thinking on the appropriate public health response.

The priority research activities and projects of I-MOVE-COVID-19 will mobilise a large European multidisciplinary network, combining the expertise and resources of groups working in surveillance (epidemiological, clinical, virological), research on respiratory diseases and evaluation of vaccines/treatments. By sharing protocols and pooling European results, it will be possible to answer questions that countries would not be able to answer effectively on their own. I-MOVE-COVID-19 will allow rapid and wide sharing of study results with national and international partners and the wider scientific community and contribute to clinical patient management and public health preparedness and response to COVID-19.
