SARI monitoring

Project description

Support ECDC in establishing an ECDC hospital network sustainable infrastructure to conduct enhanced surveillance of Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI), and to perform influenza and COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (VE), impact and burden of disease studies

Context situation

Respiratory diseases such as influenza and COVID-19 may result in a large number of severe cases that can overwhelm healthcare capacity and cause several deaths. It is therefore important to have at European level a hospital-based surveillance system to monitor incidence trends, early detect epidemics, identify groups at risk of severe disease and measure the impact of the disease.
